Meet Your Acupuncturist

Dr. Lorena Madrid, L.AC., DAOM

Hello my name is Dr. Lorena Madrid and I am the owner and acupuncturist of Madrid Acupuncture Clinic. I graduated from massage school in Denver, Colorado with an Associate Degree in Occupational Studies. My strong passion for alternative medicine motivated me to continue on to the Colorado School of Traditional Chinese Medicine and I received my Master’s of Science in Traditional Chinese Medicine.  I specialize in mental-emotional issues and understand the importance of treating the body comprehensively. I utilize acupuncture styles that are exclusive for pain and headache relief. The incorporation of Traditional Chinese Medicine modalities and the use of Chinese herbs create a foundation of treatment that’s imperative to achieve optimum wellness. In 2018, I received my Doctorate in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine at Bastyr University in Seattle, Washington. My primary educational focus was on pain management and helping patients reduce their opiate prescription dependency.

During my free time I enjoy the snowy winters and the beautiful sunshine of Colorado.  I am a Denver, Colorado native. I love to explore our beautiful Rocky Mountains. I also enjoy baking, reading, traveling and spending time with my beautiful family.

I strive to provide each patient with a comfortable and relaxing experience while addressing their health concerns. My goal is to customize every patient’s treatment with the integration of diverse remedies.

Serena Shaw, L.Ac., MSTCM

Hello! I am Serena Shaw, L.Ac. MSTCM. Licensed and nationally certified acupuncturist. I received my master's degree in traditional Chinese medicine from the Colorado School of Traditional Chinese Medicine. I am also a diplomate of Acupuncture and herbology by the NCCAOM (National Commission for the Certification of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine), and certified in clean needle technique.

I have a special interest in treating women’s heath, fertility, prenatal and postpartum issues. In addition I work a lot with stress, anxiety, pain and veteran’s health. I really love it all! I love having my private acupuncture and massage practice Nourishing Energy Acupuncture in Denver Highlands. It has such a wonderful energy here and is a beautiful location. I pride myself on my excellent needle technique, trying my best to provide gentle yet effective treatments.

In addition to being an acupuncturist I have been a licensed massage therapist for over 14 years with extensive experience working with injury recovery. A large portion of that time has been dealing with car accident victims and working with injuries but I love doing prenatal and postpartum massage as well. I have a solid foundation in anatomy and try to bring this to every massage I provide.

Wei Fang, L.Ac., MSTCM

Wei Fang is a dedicated, licensed Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioner with over 19 years of clinical experience. She graduated from the Colorado School of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2007, following a transformative early career experience in a chiropractic clinic. Witnessing a stroke patient regain the ability to use his hand after just two weeks of acupuncture—despite being told recovery was unlikely—sparked a lifelong passion for this medicine.

Today, Wei treats a diverse range of seasonal and chronic conditions, including winter sports injuries, spring allergies, summer digestive issues, and Colorado’s persistent dry cough in the fall. She specializes in reproductive health, offering targeted support for fertility and IVF treatments, helping menopausal women navigate physical and emotional changes, and improving quality of life for elderly patients. She also works with patients on managing daily stress and creating balance in their routines to support overall well-being.

In addition to her clinical work, she serves as an instructor at Colorado Chinese Medicine University, where she is committed to mentoring the next generation of practitioners. Known for her compassionate approach, Wei Fang values the relationships she builds with her patients and is honored to support them through every step of their healing journey.

Benjamin Knapp, L.Ac.

5-Element Practitioner

Benjamin Knapp acupuncturist

My path to being an acupuncturist has not always been a straight or easy road, but it’s been a worthwhile and meaningful journey. Missouri is my native state, and though the heart of a Missouri boy still beats in my chest, I do love the Colorado mountains, sunshine, and creeks. The road from small-town Missouri to Colorado acupuncture practice has taught me many lessons and given me many gifts. I strive to bring whatever I can of those gifts to my patient’s lives.

I received a Bachelors of Science in Psychology from the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg MO, and a Masters of Acupuncture from the Institute of Taoist Education & Acupuncture (ITEA) in Louisville, CO.

ITEA thoroughly trained me in 5-Element acupuncture, which is excellent for improving both physical and psychological well-being. I have continued my education with training in Trigger Point/Motor Point Acupuncture (dry needling), and Zero Balancing. Zero Balancing is a wonderful bodywork modality that works with the bones and joints. It is both gentle and profoundly effective, a rare combination.
I’m passionate about Traditional Chinese Medicine, healing, and many other things. Sometimes too many other things… I love to apply knowledge and wisdom from other subjects to my acupuncture technique. So, if I’m not studying acupuncture or some other subject, you might find me gardening, cycling, or even composing classical music. I am both self-taught and classically trained on the tuba (long story). I’m always ready for a spirited discussion of medicine, philosophy, psychology, theology, or audio and music.

I have a balanced treatment style that helps people with internal body issues, structural/musculo-skeletal issues, and the mental side of life. I find the intersection and interaction of the body and mind endlessly fascinating, and I assist my patients in bridging that gap for themselves. I specialize in helping people unravel blocks and trauma, whether at the physical or mental level, so they can perform their best. I truly believe when our organs, muscles, and joints function better so do our minds and hearts.
